SPARKs was created specifically for the Sumptuous Book Circle, a group of artists book lovers who met at a workshop with the fabulous Shereen LaPlantz, and decided to keep in touch by sending each other inspiration–sparks!

Sometimes I have a subject that wants to be made into a book, but I’m over-whelmed by the choices available. Syllabic poetry helps me to narrow my presentation options. Even if I decide not to use one of these poetic forms in the final presentation, they help me focus on word choice and rhythm. Not every poetic form included in SPARKs is syllabic poetry–some are formula poems, but just as much fun to play with!

I didn't write the examples. They came from the Internet and from my files. I did give credit when I knew who the author was.

The book is made using clasp envelopes as pages. I cut the envelopes to the size I needed, then used the scraps as binding material. The cover is made from a whole envelope. The book is held closed with jute twine and silver embroidery thread. The color-coding of pages and examples was actually an after-thought–I was having trouble keeping straight which example went where! Pages are printed on an inkjet printer using Arial for the headings, and Palatino Linotype for the text.
