The American Sailor 2003
Designed by Sherri Warner.
Modified carousel.

Unfortunately, I don't have photographs or an explanation of how this book came to be yet, but here's the colophon:

The book is created from recycled AOL triptych folders in a modified carousel structure. The outside of the book is covered with a gold foil paper printed with an ancient map and Textured Balboa Blue Strathmore. The booklet covers are the same Strathmore. The book covers are fabric with a navy blue ribbon closure.

My father, Gail Benjamin House, retired from the Navy, and this book was created to commemorate his Navy career. Fonts used include Stencil (part of his job as Storekeeper was to stencil name and rank on clothing), and Courier New (to simulate the typewriter used on reports during his career).

The book includes many original photographs taken during his career, laid out on a grid -- in a regimented, military manner. Interspersed throughout the photo pages are quotes about the Navy, copies of vintage Navy recruiting posters, star cutouts, and several types of 3-D stars. Six booklets are included: Ship's Histories (a history of the ships my dad served on), Shipboard Life (a little Navy humor), U.S. Navy History, Navy Traditions and Terminology, copies of my dad's entrance and retirement papers, and an indexed guide to the photographs.
