I saw a concrete sculpture class advertised at Mosaic on a Stick in St. Paul last February. It was a wonderful
experience -- we learned much and a good time was had by all. Of course, it did lead to my concrete habit,
but there are worse habits!

This is the piece I did in the class. I call it "Lunch" because the walley just had lunch, the pike is in the process
of having lunch, and later some fisherman will probably have the pike for lunch...my husband, the fisherman in
our family, thinks it looks more like a musky, but pike is so much easier to type :-)

The walleye is a handcarved styrofoam form covered with fiberglass mesh, then concrete. The pike has an
internal form of hardware cloth filled with builder's expanding foam, then covered with concrete. The base is
solid concrete -- it had to be heavy to hold those fish up -- poured in a mold formed from sand. Its actually
three separate pieces, which mkes it much easier to move around.

I actually hooked a pump up to it last weekend - the water comes out of the pike's mouth and kind of dribbles
down the side of the pike, splashing first in the curve of the tail, and then on the rock-covered base. I think I'll
get a larger pump though -- I'd like the water to also dribble off the walleye a little...
