This bowl is sculpted from concrete using fiberglass mesh over a form, then finished with a couple of 3D applied
butterflies made from aluminum, and glass mosaic. The words are raised slightly above the level of the mosaic,
partly to make them stand out from the background, and partly because concrete dries so doggone fast when
the humidity level is low!

The piece was inspired by an artists' book that I did (my background is in book art) about the same subject.
A butterfly flaps its wings here and cause a hurricane on the other side of the world -- small actions may have
great consequences...the mosaic pattern is inspired by a weather radar picture of a hurricane (this one happens
to be Ivan, whose destruction on the Gulf coast of Alabama I saw first hand...) and the words are a Haiku-like
verse that I wrote (whispers waft from wings -- harbingers of hurricanes heard around the world...)
